Aaron Hunt

I am a traditional southern folk artist that is pioneering a revival of the southern style of wood carving that became popular in the rural poor south during the reconstruction period. This is a celebration of a long history of whimsical story telling that has been a part of southern culture that bridges various ethnic groups and social economic groups. My goal for the past 20 years has been to continue the story of the rich history, culture and values that are represented in the daily lives of the resilient Southerner. As a native Texas many of these themes and stories were etched into the theater of my mind sitting in feed stores on Saturday mornings, stretching wire with the other hands or while fishing under a cotton wood tree along the banks of the trinity. I aim to carefully extend this story into the future while binding myself to the craft, traditions and memory of those who made me who I am.
