Mike Martin was born in Houston, Texas in 1956. He was a Scholarship student of the Hill Country Arts Foundation in 1970, and continued his art education at Texas Tech University. He painted under the tutelage of Clay McGaughy, Buck Schwietz , and Herb Mears as well as other prominent Texas artists. In 1981 Mike joined the Lubbock Police Academy which led to a career in forensic art and composite drawing. These images helped lead to the capture of numerous criminals and solve criminal cases. Mike retired from his law enforcement career after thirty-four years. He started plein air painting by building his own pochade boxes. He won first place in the 2014 Plein Air Event in Burnet, Texas. Artist Albert Handell gave Mike’s plein air painting third place in the Kerrville, Texas Plein Air Event. Mike moved to Comfort, Texas and now paints the local historical homes and buildings of the town.
